Consultant for Mid Term Review- Making Displacement Safer Programme

GNDR is seeking a consultant to facilitate the ‘Making Displacement Safer’ mid-term review. This is an interesting and exciting opportunity for a consultant who is experienced in a variety of monitoring and evaluation techniques, and interested in issues connected to forced displacement.

Main purpose of the role

Funded by USAID (BHA), the ‘Making Displacement Safer’ programme aims for locally-led DRR solutions for displaced populations in urban areas. The aim of the programme, linked to the key outcome of The Sendai Framework, is “To contribute to the substantial reduction of disaster risk losses in lives, livelihoods and assets for displaced populations in urban areas”. The programme design explicitly recognises the need for knowledge to be gathered from the perspective of those most at risk, solutions to be trialled and lessons to be shared around how to build disaster resilience of the urban displaced.

Overall scope of the role

The intended outcomes of Making Displacement Safer are:

  • An increased understanding of the unique disaster risk challenges for displaced populations in urban areas

  • An increased number of innovative approaches for reducing the vulnerability of displaced populations in urban areas.

  • The approaches and stakeholder roles for reducing vulnerabilities of displaced populations in urban areas are institutionalised in national and international systems

    Candidate requirements

    We are ideally looking for candidates that have the following attributes and skills:

    • Experience of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies

    • Substantial experience in conducting evaluations in multi-cultural contexts

    • Knowledge and experience of disaster displacement and associated international standards and policies

    • Excellent analytical skills

    • Excellent facilitation and communication skills, both written and spoken, in English. Additional skills in French and Spanish would be beneficial but translation can be provided if necessary.
